Manipulating light 1

Posted by Yonatan (New York, United States) on 7 March 2013 in People & Portrait.

I've had a speedlight for a few years, and while I haven't been afraid to use it, I also don't routinely utilize it to its full potential. On my list of things to do was to learn how mold light and create more interest than just throwing some bounce flash on a scene. Preventing the light from affecting the entire scene is one way to create drama, and I finally purchased a snoot to allow me to do this more easily.

While I was waiting for my wife to get ready to go to a Jazz Age themed party, I figured it was a good time to start experimenting with the snoot. The following are a few self portraits that I took. I would especially love critiques as this is a whole new area for me.

Thank you for taking some time to take a look at my photographs. I hope you enjoy your stop at my blog.

I invite you all to visit frequently and leave comments and feedback. I would really appreciate constructive criticism that will help me improve. You don't need to be a photographer to help me, tell me what you like and don't like. If you have any suggestions of interesting things to shoot or fun techniques to try I'd also love to know.

Best wishes,

Yonatan
