East River Sunrise 2

Posted by Yonatan (New York, United States) on 26 August 2011 in Cityscape & Urban.

Just before the sun rises above the horizon...

For this shot I attempted to bring out the color and vibrancy of the foreground flowers. I used a Cokin filter system with two graduated neutral density filters in order to hold back the bright sky and balance the exposure with the much darker foreground. In order to keep much of the scene in focus, I stopped my aperture down to f/16 and had to bump my ISO up in order to get a short enough shutter speed to freeze the flowers which were swaying in the morning breeze.

I invite you all to visit frequently and leave comments and feedback. I would really appreciate constructive criticism that will help me improve. You don't need to be a photographer to help me, tell me what you like and don't like. If you have any suggestions of interesting things to shoot or fun techniques to try I'd also love to know.

Best wishes,
