Lion head resting on parade route

Posted by Yonatan (New York, United States) on 4 February 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Last week I visited the aminus3 blog by Stephen Philips and I was inspired by this photo to attend NYC's Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown.

The weather was absolutely beautiful (44F when it had been <20F for quite some time) and the celebration was lots of fun. I accidentally arrived an hour and a half early due to misinformation about the start time, but this turned out to be wonderful since I got great spot on the parade route.

I took this photo as my girlfriend and I were hanging out waiting for the parade to begin. The individuals that would make this lion come alive in a short while were hanging out chatting just to the right of the lion's head. I took a ton of photos that day, but I think this one is my favorite.

I highly recommend checking out the parade next year. It was a lot of fun and it was definitely a great place to experiment with a camera. I'll be intermittently posting pictures from this parade over the next few weeks and I'd love any comments and suggestions so that next year I can improve.

Thank you for taking some time to take a look at my photographs. I hope you enjoy your stop at my blog.

I invite you all to visit frequently and leave comments and feedback. I would really appreciate constructive criticism that will help me improve. You don't need to be a photographer to help me, tell me what you like and don't like. If you have any suggestions of interesting things to shoot or fun techniques to try I'd also love to know.

Best wishes,
