Happy Chanukah!

Posted by Yonatan (New York, United States) on 21 December 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this shot, but I wanted to put something up today to wish everybody a Happy Chanukah.

For those of you who don't know the basic story behind the dreidel (pictured above) here it is: King Antiochus did not allow the Jews to study the Torah and thus they were forced to teach in secret. If one of Antiochus' soldiers approached a secret learning session they would quickly hide their scrolls and take out their dreidels to pretend they were gambling.

Of note, in this shot the dreidel was actually spinning. With a fast shutter speed and the flash I was able to freeze the dreidel in it's spin.

Thank you for taking some time to take a look at my photographs. I hope you enjoy your stop at my blog.

I invite you all to visit frequently and leave comments and feedback. I would really appreciate constructive criticism that will help me improve. You don't need to be a photographer to help me, tell me what you like and don't like. If you have any suggestions of interesting things to shoot or fun techniques to try I'd also love to know.

Best wishes,
